of course. any type of practice, improves your game somehow. Spider helps with control when you have to do moves quick. Well bball drills helped me a lot with control and it helped make cross overs etc more effective and less likely to get the ball stolen from me.
just playing basketball helps too but sometimes the drills come in handy (you can actually do the spider when the ball is on the ground and someone from the other team is trying to grab at it)
References :
starting pointguard 5 yrs

yes. they are very affective. but i see where your coming from it seems like you are dribbling and doin a lot of things
just to improve your ball handling. but, in the end it works. drills are affective over all. they improve you skills.
to be a good/descent ball handler you have to work
cause thats one of the main parts of basketball.
References :
I am a coach for nba basketball

Yes, they help. Follow the direction of your coach. It also helps to dribble with both hands. Try to develop your dribbling ability with both hands - right and left. Don't be predictable. If you are right handed, spend some time practicing with your left hand. If you are left handed, spend some time practicing with your right hand. Develop skill with both hands. Also, try to dribble with your head up. Don't look at the ball when you are dribbling. If you are a point guard, you can see the floor when you dribble with your head up. Take care and good luck.
References :
me
