How should i practice basketball (jump shooting, defense, free throws, the works)?

I didnt make my team last year in seventh grade, but mostly because i was nervous. I know that if i went back, i would have made the team. But now i am a year behind. Over this summer, not only will i be practicing hard, but i will be teaching my sister as she is moving up to the 5 and 6 grade league. So tell me great drills, and way that two people can practice well together. I want to know your basic practice routine. I am going to make a routine for us. Like start off with conditioning, then dribling drills, then layups, then warm-up jumpers, then offensive and defensive drills, the n a 1 on 1. All and all 1 to 2 hours of practice in a regular session. I need to know some good drills. My sis and i will be home alone all summer, and plan on getting ready for next years sports. She plays softball and basketball, i play football and basketball. thanx for the advice.

For conditioning do suicides. Those are starting under the basket and running to the free throw line, then back, then to half court, then back, then the far free throw line, then back, then to the other basket then back. High schoolers call them 32's because their goal is to run it in 32 seconds. this helps conditioning, especially if you do them repeatedly. for 5th/6th graders i would suggest timing them for 38 seconds (just a guess). Also, make everyone make it in the givin time or make them run it again. It can also be used as a punishment mechanism. It grows teamwork and is a great way to make people push it. If you want it more you will most likely get it more. For jump shooting, i do a thing called grooving. Stand just 3 feet away from the basket and use only your shooting hand to shoot. do this for 10-15 mins. before warming up (stretch EVERY muscle, and do a couple suicides to get your blood pumping.) The only reason that people like Ray Allen and Kobe Bryant make SOOOOO many jump shots is that their shots all look exactly the same. Find a rhythm and stick to it!!! Another drill to do is a fast break drill. Have 5 defenders stand at the free throw line and 5 offenders stand opposite of them on the base line. Instruct a defender to run to the baseline and then run to the opposite basket. As you do that throw a ball to one of the offenders and tell them to, as a team, attack the basket at the other end of the gym. The 4 remaining defenders will try to contain the 5 offenders as the last defender trails. This simulates a fast break in a real game. The offenders should try to score quick while they have numbers. This encourages quick passes and teamwork. Play as a team and you can beat any one good player! And for you, never give up. Work as hard as you can over the summer. Know that you are the only thing standing in the way of you and a Championship. Did you know that Micheal Jordan wasn't that serious about basketball until Sophomore year in high school? He got angered when his sophomore friend went to Varsity while he stayed on JV. over the summer he worked hard and his junior year he was a starter on Varsity. Who knows what would have happened of he started being serious earlier? Start now and maybe you can be like Micheal Jordan but only 3 years premature. Not making the team is the opportunity of a lifetime kid! use it to your advantage!!! NEVER STOP.

Just make sure you are getting in reptitions. The best way to get better at basketball in a drill is to do it over…and over… and over,,, again every day.

i don't know about the jump shooting, defense and stuff but for free throws, knock outs a good exercise. it's under pressure and it can help you hurry your layup skills. for jump shooting, you can try playing horse with just traditional jump shooting. i'm a bit competitive so those things work for me. for defense, i think 1 on 1 should take care of that. also, you can try playing 1 on 1 with the defenders hands tied behind their back cause thats how you often pick up fouls. sry my answers aren't so great

Okay, remember this. You need to be better with your off hand, so everything you do on the right should be done on the left hand, twice as hard. For drills use your imagination. Remember to use your best dribbling move for last, and use speed, power, and control dribble. No good defense can break through the basics.

There are some drills that can be used on the sources.

U could work on all sorts of passes cuz every team needs a good playmaker. You could also use each other to rebound the ball while one person shoots. It takes a really long time to get good but if u try reallly hard you will. Just look at Michael Jordan. Ya so anyways good luck :)
