    My association …
My association drills into us that it is color first, then number, then foul.

It sounds so strange to hear it number then color.

The only foul we signal at the point of infraction is a block or a charge.

But then again we just could be rebels…

    one suggestion. …
one suggestion. Instead of ‘number then color’, you should go ‘color then number’. That way, the scorer knows what team, and then what number. If you say 2-3 red, they may find red and then say “what was that number again?”. If you say, “red, 2-3″, they’re less likely to miss it.

    Third, the video …
Third, the video doesn’t point out that upon a foul or violation, the direction of the ball needs to be pointed before the spot of disposing the ball. Calling a foul or violation is straight up, not slanted like the real situation example. Coverage areas should’ve been explained.

    Well done on the video.

Its fun how we get …
Its fun how we get everyone correcting each other. First, we should indicate the type of infraction at all levels to our partner/s to set them know what happened. Second, I know the birddog when calling the foul is optional, but is also discouraged and is being phased out.

    Keep in mind this …
Keep in mind this video is made for JUNIOR officials, reffing lower-level games. Indicating the type of foul at the point of infraction helps these young players learn what they did wrong, and also helps you communicate with your partner. TECHNICALLY, no, it is not advised, and I wouldn’t recommend doing it in a AAAA game. But PERSONALLY, I would probably still do it at the younger ages. Remember, you want to do what is right for the game and the players- including helping them learn.

    Incorrect: …
Incorrect: according to FIBA rules you do not indicate the type of foul directly after the whistle, you should point to the player who committed the foul (“bird dog”) and only indicate the type of foul when you report to the table. (see 7.3 in FIBA two person manual) I did not see this mechanic practiced in the video. Otherwise a fine production.
